So its been a long time. 5 whole months, but never mind that. 

I dont think i I have found much new music – well none comes to mind, oh wait! No! I mean, YES! 

 My taste has broadened a tad, and I really really love-

Paramore – the best song of theirs ever is Hallelujah. And even if their music wasnt awesome the girls hair is pretty sick =)

Paramore is pretty famous these days. Especially due to Twilight – Decode is somewhere in that movie. They used to be  a pretty indie band I hear. 

Relient K are the other people I am here to mention. 
A few awesome points about them-

They are the best Christian band I know of (up until now I hadnt found a Christian band i really liked)

They are Christian

They have somehow managed to be part of the secular scene even though they are a Christian band

so yeah. I personally really love  Deathbed, but Be My Escape is a more popular and equally as awesome song =)

Oh, and speaking of Christian music. Check out Morrow. They are fully my brother and sister in law! I feel all famous now because we sing some of their songs at church and yesterday they performed at Equip – a Christians women convention.

I’m impressed with Flight of the Conchords! I didn’t even think that they would be in the Hottest 100, til Business Time came on (at 27?), then apparently that was their 3rd song! Which is great. I suppose they ARE New Zealands 4th most popular parody (?) band…..

YES!!! Now mum owes me $10 bucks, Kings of Leon – Sex is on Fire it is! I knew it… hence the $10 bucks

So there you go.

Today I have discovered a few people. People number one are Wild Marmelade. A didgeridoo and drum combo. It is truly golden! Their Myspace is here. Techno Head is my favourite song, so far . It is truly amazing to listen to, and I imagine it would be just mindblowing live – well, if Xavier Rudd is anything to compare it to, it would be!

I also discovered Tina Harrod, who one the AIR Award for bes jazz album. Which is something, so I went and checked out her Myspace. Good stuff, I love jazz!

Then there is Mr Percival. He brings it down with A’Cappella, but he has more of a soul approach to the A’cappella thing. It’s truly groovematic! All the People is a fave already, mind you, I’m only half way through listening to his myspace, so there could be others.

And last of all, Mr Sister. Amazing string stuff on here, I guess if you look at their influences, it’s not surprising, but I love it all the same. I don’t really know how to describe them. I would say almost Corrs-y. Lots of strings, as I mentioned, and Mel and Steve on vocals……. yeah just check them out, I would advise.

Well have fun with that lot. I did!

Also there is Muph and Plutonic’s Don’t Worry About Nothing at that site. It’s great, featuring an amazing vocalist it’s got the main jazzy thing, then a rap thing in the background – it’s just as gold as All the Colours, but in a different way.

Then there is Seagull. They’re just a nice sing-a-long if you know it kind of band. You’ll find their stuff on Unearthed.com – they’re being featured this week.

So most moving stuff is over, the internet is back on, and I’ve been to a concert!

I went to Xavier Rudd’s Dark Shades of Blue album release worldwide tour thing last night. It was amazing!

His support act was Dallas Frasca, who is a fairly hardcore, but totally cool girl. With pink/red dreads. My favourite song of hers is Got Me Goin’. Which is just totally.. cool. Words can’t describe really. You should check out her myspace.

So then comes on Xavier. With his song Dark Shades of Blue (I love the lyrics. They’re… poetic or something) and some songs from White Moth, then one of my faves off his new album – Edge of the Moon. It’s a totally like, sway your arms along, get totally rapt by the lyrics, and scream along with the chorus song. Well, that’s what happened anyways.

Oh. If you don’t know Xavier Rudd’s stuff, it’s like, aboriginal meets dance and rock – He plays didgeridoo, guitar, and stompbox and other various percussion things, and sings all inthe one song, while his drummer goes nuts with solos.

So I really love Xavier’s new album, it’s more rocky, but has a few quieter songs, and even a femail vocalist or two! (I’m not sure which song that is, but it’s another favourite.)

My favourite Xavier album (of the ones I’ve heard) is Solace. It has some amazing songs like Let Me Be, Green Spandex, and a personal fave (I even learnt it!) – Partnerships.

Onto Hey Big Aki.
I recently discovered them – I think due to a Vitamin Records newsletter or maybe it was unearthed. But it was a big day of discoveringness.

Hey Big Aki are a chilled out, guitar/ukulele band, they sound a bit like Sigur Ros/Elliot Smith. They’re nice to sit down and have a cold drink in the sun to Smith is the best song of theirs that I’ve heard – on my like-o-meter anyway.

Another person I’m RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRREALLY really into atm is Damien Rice.
He’s Irish. He’s amazing. He’s more amazing.
He has a more quiet/slow/sad style, with um predominant vocals. There’s lots of cello, and girl vox too.
9 Crimes, of his latest album 9 is pretty popular – it was in Shrek the 3rd, but his stuff is in the soundtracks for a few other movies like Dear Frankie (what a good movie!) - It was topped off with Damien’s Delicate, a rather well known song off O,  and Closer features a song or two and there are other things I can’t be bothered to name. My point is, there is a great possibility you’ve heard him somewhere or another.
If I had to say which songs I’d listen to, it’d probably be 9 Crimes, the Blowers Daughter, and Elephant. Or his myspace

His album 9 has a bit more hardcoreness though – like, Rootless Tree gets rocky… but I don’t know that album very well, so I can’t say what else.

I only have Bring It On (apparently it’s the best one) but I’ve heard random stuff from other albums and it’s all totally diggable… savvy?

So, the full list of Gomez CDerama is like, miles and miles long, but the main ones I’ve heard of are: How We Operate, In Our Gun, and, of course, Bring It On. There are heaps more though, so yeah….

The first song I really knew was Whipping Piccadilly, and my friend made me watch the vid clip, which I did, on numerous occasions. It’s so cool

And I’m pretty sure this a famouserer song, and I love Gomez SO much that I’ll post two songs – how ’bout that! – there’s dedication for ya:D

So I’ve got to say my favourite songs (that I know anyway) are Get Miles (the lyrics are so great eg. ‘I love the silence, but the silence is killing me’. Ahh, the talent!), Whippin Piccadilly, and Tijuana Lady.

And I know I keep going on and on about them, but Angus and Julia Stone man. You can’t go past them. I’m pretty sure they’re my fave band of all time, like I love other stuff, and I have fads and all that, but I’m pretty sure I’ve never skipped an Angus & Jules song (except maybe The Beast, but it then, it goes on you know..).

I’m pretty sure I have all their cds, singles/EPs included. (But the Wedding Song? where is that from?) And my first and favourite song (prob cos I heard it first and it was on a Coastal Chill) is Paper Aeroplanes -

I love pretty much all their songs, but Bella, Horse and Cart, Mango Tree, Heart Full of Wine, All of Me, and A Book Like Thise are probably my favourite songs. Wasted is the most famous, but I have heard it sooooo many times, it’s got the point where I need a break from it. I guess cos it was in the Hottest 100, and had all that air leading up to it, and then when everyone was listening to the Hottest 100…..

I so can’t wait ’til they release a new album – better be soon, but they’re doing so much touring it would be hard… well, let’s hope they’re amazing freaks who record albums while on tour

Ellen Page is an absolutely amazing actress, so is Michael Cera…. and Jason Bateman, and like, all the cast

The soundtrack is a whopper too, with Kimya Dawson, Belle and Sebastian, and other cool peoples.

AND it’s so absolutely quotable. I really can’t say anything here, cos you’ve got to get it slash it’ll ruin the movie, but man! What a movie. Kudos to *Diablo Cody/Jason Reitman!

*Diablo Cody is/was a blogger and she wrote the story and screenplay, and Jason Reitman directed it, and they both did a marvelous job!

Just watch the movie…. A few times!

Since music exams are looming and all, I thought I’d share some of the amazing pieces I’m learning!

Okay, so I can’t quite play it like that. Yet.

And then there’s my showcase, showoff, fun-to-play-but-I-still-can’t-really-do-it piece (ps. My piano sounds better!)

And my favourite, besides a la Beethoven, is (dadadadum!) Romance Without Words – Faure. I can play this better than him though, even without the baby noises, would you believe it!? :P
